The aged paint cracked and chipped as if it were an eggshell.

Great title, incredible image !
The tight , close up cropping has resulted in a minimal, archetypal image that far transcends the original subject.
Red for blood, white for milk, and rust for decay or the passage of time , add up to a Postmodern 'vanitas.'
